I just got an email from Craig, asking how things were going. I realized that I hadn’t really put much in the blog for quite some time, and an update on the status of things is badly needed!
Return from the Front Yes, it’s true that we will be going somewhere else by the end of the year. We think. Of course, we don’t know when and we don’t know where. I’m trying to get a good job in another international location, but international jobs for IT professionals are getting harder and harder to find, so we may end up settling for something in the States. Doesn’t do much for retirement funding, but I’m sure we will be fine. A lot of people ask, “How do you live not knowing?”. You just do. We live in a community of people who live with exactly the same questions. It’s just our life, and we actually like it.
Mexico Five-oh We are really excited about heading to Mexico for my 50th birthday. People are coming who we have not seen in quite a while, and I think everyone is ready for a party. George (more on George later) says he is still looking forward to coming, and we are very much looking forward to seeing him (and Cathy, of course).
Younger Next Year Sounds like one of those fad diets, doesn’t it? Well, last February one of the folks here in camp gave a quick talk about a book he had recently read, called “Younger Next Year”. It was all about the science and psycology of the “last third” of your life – the time from 50 to ... whenever. Well, just those few minutes changed my life. I’m working out 6 days a week and feeling way better for it. Lost a lot of weight, too. All (well, most) of those aches and pains have gone bye-bye. I highly recommend the book to anyone who is looking into that foggy glass to the future. It’s not just about exercise, it’s about attitude and life changes. Worth it for anyone.
Travel Plans We are off on the Mexico trip at the end of October, but also plan to visit family and friends during the following month. I have no idea what the upcoming job changes might do to all these plans, but the Mexico thing is a given. Somewhere in there Liz and I are going to try to make it part of the way down the Natchez Trace in my Miata, trying to stay somewhere under the posted 50mph speed limit, hehe.
George and his family We were very happy to hear from George this weekend that he and his family are safe and healthy after the terror that nature unleashed on New Orleans. Other friends in New Orleans are also safe, but many of them lost a lot. It’s a terrible thing and it makes you realize just how fragile our lives really are. We are so happy that George is going to be fine.
That’s about all the news worth printing!
